Child
development experts agree that a child's most important
learning experiences often occur well before
kindergarten. Recognizing this, Bright Light's program
was designed to meet children's social, emotional, and
cognitive needs. Our programs are educational and
structured, yet sufficiently flexible to allow each
child to grow and develop at his or her own pace.
INFANTS
(Bees & Bears)

Infants explore
their world through their senses. From their earliest
days they investigate through sight, sound, touch,
movement, and smell. In our infant rooms, babies are
encouraged to play with a variety of colorful toys and
manipulatives that stimulate their senses and enhance
their curiosity.
In order to encourage language development, teachers
talk, sing, and read to the babies throughout the day.
Our infant rooms provide ample space for rolling,
creeping, crawling, and a host of other activities to
develop gross motor skills. Most important of all, our
infant program offers love and attention. Our low
teacher/infant ratio allows for what babies need most:
lots of holding and cuddling.
TODDLERS
(Monkeys & Tigers)
Toddlers
strive to develop autonomy, independence, and security.
Our program acknowledges these needs and meets them. In
our toddler rooms, children begin to participate in
circle time, which is Bright Light's primary group
learning session. Some of the circle time activities
include reading, singing songs, show 'n' tell, flannel
board stories, and finger plays. In circle time, the
children also focus upon the theme of the week, which
may include topics as diverse as the five senses,
community helpers, or the seasons.
Children in the toddler program also participate in a
variety of teacher-directed activities, such as games,
art projects, and outdoor play. In addition to learning
their colors and shapes, our toddlers begin to develop
self-help skills, such as setting the table, putting on
their coats by themselves, and washing their hands.
Teachers in the toddler program encourage communication,
sharing, and fairness as the building blocks for making
friends.
PRESCHOOL
(Elephants & Giraffes)
Our
primary goal for the preschool program is to provide the
framework for kindergarten and early elementary school
learning.
Our preschool
program emphasizes pre-reading skills. Each week, the
curriculum introduces a new letter of the alphabet,
which the children learn to recognize, pronounce, and
write. We reinforce these skills through stories, songs,
and other activities. We also seek to develop pre-math
skills with activities such as counting, grouping, and
sorting.
Preschoolers
also participate in circle time, where they discuss the
days of the week, the weather, and other age-appropriate
topics. Our theme-based curriculum, which is implemented
on a center-wide basis, provides children with
opportunities to learn through art, music, social
studies, science, computers, and dramatic play.
MORNING PRESCHOOL
(Giraffes)
For families who do not need "child
care" but still want their preschool age children to
experience the richness of a group learning environment,
Bright Light offers morning preschool program. This
program is available to children four to five years of
age.
Like Bright Light's full-time
program, the Morning Preschool Program emphasizes
pre-reading and pre-math skills. Each week, we introduce
a new letter of the alphabet, which children learn to
recognize, pronounce, and
write. Bright Light enforces these skills through
stories, songs, and other activities. We also develop
pre-math skills through activities such as counting,
grouping, and sorting. Our theme-based curriculum
provides children with opportunities to learn though
art, music, social studies, science, computers, and
dramatic play.
Morning preschool
is available from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Children may
attend two days (Tuesday and Thursday), three days
(Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), or all five days per
week.
BEFORE & AFTER
SCHOOL CARE
(Sharks)
Bright Light offers
care before and after school for children in
Kindergarten through 5th grade. Our program includes
transportation on the Bright Light Bus to and from
Shamona Creek Elementary, Pickering Valley Elementary,
and Windsor Christian Academy, (For Kindergarten
children enrolled in before and after school care,
Bright Light provides transportation for morning
Kindergarten only.)
Before and after
school care has been a part of Bright Light's program
for several years, and we recently opened a new 2,500
square foot school-age wing, which includes a large classroom
for homework, art projects, and meals. The school-age
wing also includes a large multi-purpose room set up to
promote dramatic play, science exploration, large motor
development, and other activities. There is also a large
playground for basketball, kickball, hopscotch, and
other outdoor recreational activities.
The afternoon
school-age program generally runs from 3:20 p.m. to 6:00
p.m. During this time, Bright Light provides quiet study
time and assistance with homework and other school
projects. Bright Light's staff are in direct contact
with you about your child's progress with homework.
PARENT PARTICIPATION
Bright Light has always enjoyed enthusiastic support
from our parents, and we encourage parental involvement
at every level of our program. We have an "open door"
policy, where parents are welcome to visit their
children, meet with the teachers, or talk to the
director at any time. Throughout the year, Bright Light
also hosts several center-wide parties for both parents
and children. Some of these include the Halloween
Parade, Thanksgiving Feast, and our Family Day picnic in
the summer time. The parents have also organized a
Parent Teacher Organization for the express purpose of
providing an avenue of communication between the parents
and the teachers and to enrich the environment for the
children.
